Caledon's Winter Bucket List: 10 Ways to Embrace the Season
The chilliest weather has officially arrived, but that doesn’t mean making memories needs to come to a halt. From snowy adventures to relaxation, major events and more, Caledon has a variety of activities for winter fun. Make the most of this season by checking these items off your winter bucket list.
Try Cross-Country Skiing
Whether you are looking to get your heart pumping, or just want to glide at a leisurely pace, cross-country skiing is a wonderful way to explore Caledon’s natural landscapes. Bring your own skis to drift along the Caledon Trailway, or rent a pair at either Terra Cotta Conservation Area or Albion Hills Conservation Park to explore more trails.

Walk an Illuminated Forest Trail
Ignite the Night is a 2km illuminated forest trail of dazzling lights inside of Terra Cotta Conservation Area. Full of photo ops and cozy fires along the way, visitors can choose to walk or rent snowshoes, cross-country skis or kick-sleds from the park. Afterwards, roast a few marshmallows next to the park store for a treat! This event runs Saturday nights from January 10th-February 28th.

Go on a Skating Date
It’s not winter in Canada without checking skating off the list. This Canadian favourite can be found in Caledon’s village of Alton at two great locations. Bring your skates for a quick rip on the Mill Pond at the Alton Mill after your art class, or try the all new rink at Osprey Valley. This pairs perfectly with a bite to eat at The Kettle or dinner at Two Brothers restaurant. No matter where you choose to skate, one thing’s for sure: it’s a winter classic worth lacing up for. *When participating, please respect all rink rules, closures and proceed only when rink and weather conditions allow for safe skating.

Hike Winter Trails
Baby it’s cold outside, but that won’t stop us from hitting the trails. Winter is an underrated time of year to go for a hike. With fewer crowds, snowflakes falling and the peace of nature around you, it’s truly enchanting. Some of our favourite winter trails are Albion Hills Conservation Park, Forks of the Credit and Terra Cotta Conservation Area.

Relax in Outdoor Pools
Soaking in an outdoor hot springs pool after the busy holiday season is calling our name. Being immersed in nature, relaxing in the crisp air without a worry in the world is the kind of calm energy we need entering the new year. If this activity is also on your radar, check out the Millcroft Inn and Spa, or the private Nordic Spa when you book a stay with the Liberty Inn.

Have Fun at Trivia Night
You’ve been waiting for a cozy activity to hit this bucket list? Look no further than a Trivia Night hosted at GoodLot Farmstead Brewing, with a wood-fired pizza delivery from Gather Cafe. Picture this…you’re snug in the Oast Barn, with a crackling fire, crisp beer, friends laughing, competing over Trivia, and wood-fired pizza is delivered straight to your lap. Game nights simply don’t get any better than this.

Attend the Iconic Fire and Ice Festival
Winter in Caledon wouldn’t be complete without the iconic Fire and Ice Festival. This returning event is a favourite of both visitors and residents year after year. Held at the Alton Mill January 31-February 1st, look forward to live fire performances, ice carving, skating, cozy food and drink, activities and more. This event is too hot to miss, and cool enough for the whole family!

Snowshoe After a Big Snow Dump
Snowshoeing is a shoe-in for a stellar time in the snow. Perfect for when you want to do a trail walk but the snow is just a *little* too deep. Strap these babies on your feet, hit the trails and have endless fun. Dive into the snow on the Kettle Links Light Trail at Osprey Valley. This new off-season trail drapes lights through the trees for a magical experience when golf isn't an option. Other places to rent include Terra Cotta Conservation Area and Albion Hills Conservation Park.

Race Down a Sledding Hill
Snow-covered hills, racing friends to the bottom and endless belly laughs, sledding is a winter classic. Feel the rush (literally) when you cross this bucket list item off the list at Albion Hills Conservation Park. The sledding hill is just to the left of you after entering the park.

Stay Cozy Indoors at a Cafe
Did the past nine bucket list items get you feeling icy? For number ten, settle into a cozy cafe for the afternoon. Whether you want to quietly read, catch up with a friend or play a board game, there’s a Caledon cafe for you. Sip on a warm winter-theme latte and bask in the cozy vibes at any of our cafes listed here.
