Experience Winter's Good Side: A Day Trip to Caledon

Cold temperatures and shorter days doesn’t mean that winter has to be the hibernation season. This day trip shows you winter’s good side, including outdoor fun, cozy stops, food and laughter. Enjoy a true Canadian winter while keeping warm for a good part of the day! This itinerary is best completed on Saturdays due to a live theatre show and special winter trail event. Throw on your fluffiest sweater and get ready to visit Caledon!

Heatherlea Farm Shoppe

Your day begins at Heatherlea Farm Shoppe, a family owned farm situated on a scenic country road, where winter feels a little more magical. Heatherlea is best known for their top-quality grass-fed meats and handcrafted snacks made with clean ingredients and local products. Stepping inside is an experience in itself. Rich wood tones, barn doors and rustic details accentuate the space, adding a hint of warmth, contrasting the snowy weather outside. Rows of specialty food items straight from local farmers line the shelves, such as sauces, preserves, pastas and more. Additional items you’ll discover include seasonal decor, plates, creams and home gifts. The cafe and bistro complete the Heatherlea experience, serving farm-to-table sandwiches and comforting drinks. Whether you grab lunch to go, or take a seat by the window to watch snowflakes fall, one thing’s for sure, your taste buds will say thank you!

Caledon Townhall Players

Keep warm with an afternoon of laughter and live theatre with Caledon Townhall Players. Catch a 2:15pm matinee on either February 14, 15 or 21 and enjoy the new comedy Lunenberg by Norm Foster. Inside the charming building that was built in 1875 and once the Town Hall, this is the perfect way to slow down and support local arts. As the show wraps up, get ready for what’s next on the itinerary!

Cordoba Coffee

Your next stop brings you to Cordoba Coffee, Caledon’s newest coffee shop. Located on a scenic plot on Campbell’s Cross Farm, this family owned cafe specializes in gourmet flavoured coffee and espresso. Here, the beans are roasted on-site, filling the air with rich scents and ensuring every cup is as fresh as possible. With unique flavours from toasted marshmallow and irish cream, to classic lattes, there’s a cup for every personality. Our personal favourite, new on the Valentine’s Day menu is the scrumptious White Chocolate Raspberry Mocha. Pull up a chair and enjoy your drink in the warm, friendly space. It’s the perfect pick-me-up, offering a small energy boost before continuing on with your afternoon!

Terra Cotta Inn

To cap off the day, you’ll have two stops in Caledon’s charming small village of Terra Cotta. First is dinner at the Terra Cotta Inn. Within the historic walls of this restaurant, you’ll find cozy seating, friendly staff and unmatched cuisine. With dishes ranging from casual burgers to fine Italian dining, there’s an option for everyone. Not only is the food delicious, but the grounds outside are impressive, set on the banks of the Credit River. During the winter months, the gardens may not be blooming, but the riverside scenery still provides a tranquil backdrop to your meal when you look out the window. The combination of atmosphere, flavour, and views makes this a must-stop on your winter day trip.

Ignite the Night

The night’s finale brings you to a classic outdoor event that takes place every winter at Terra Cotta Conservation Area. Ignite the Night is a 2km illuminated trail that turns the forest into an enchanting escape. Rows of dazzling lights drape through the trees, with installations and fun photo ops all throughout. The trail is accented with glowing torches, as well as crackling fire pits where you can stop to warm your hands and take in the scenery. Bring along your snowshoes or cross-country skis if you have a pair, or opt for hiking it instead. After completing the trail, you’re invited into the park store to browse goodies and pick up a s’mores kit or warm drink. More than just a walk, Ignite the Night is a fully immersive experience, and a captivating end to your day in Caledon.
