Delicious Detours: A Foodie's Guide to Caledon

So you’ve officially landed on Caledon as your next road trip destination. You’re the type of person that needs to pre-plan where to eat in advance and make all the resos. Not you? Maybe you’re currently in Caledon, just finished a hike, hungry and frantically searching on your phone for a meal close by, so you stumbled upon this blog. No matter who you are…one thing we all have in common is we gotta eat. Let us guide you through Caledon’s food scene, with this comprehensive list of restaurants all across town. Whether you’re in Alton or Bolton, wanting a quick bite or an elevated dining experience, we’ll break it down for you so you can do less searching and more chomping!

Villa Caledon Inn

The Villa Caledon Inn has been a local hot spot for more than 50 years. Located in Caledon East, it’s a central food option that’s quick to get to, no matter how you’ve spent your day in Caledon beforehand! Inside you’ll find stone walls and rustic charm, while outside on the patio you’ll be seated within flourishing gardens and listening to the peaceful waterfall. Menu items include comfort food such as wings, bowls, tacos, pizza and much more. Between the food and idyllic setting, this restaurant is the perfect touch to a day spent in Caledon.

Fescue Restaurant & Lounge

Located in Alton at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley is their newest restaurant, Fescue Restaurant & Lounge. Fescue offers an elevated dining experience in a moody, intimate setting. Chef Jamie Huynh draws inspiration from the West coast, where he meticulously honed his cooking skills early in his career. Dishes such as Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, Prime NY Striploin and Carrot Risotto are just a couple of our many favourites. Cuisine is locally sourced when possible, and creatively arranged on your plate to offer you both a visually appealing and tasty experience. Fescue is open to the public year-round and not exclusive to golfers (though it does hit the spot for your post-round meal).

Terra Cotta Inn

On the southwest end of Caledon, tucked away in the village of Terra Cotta is none other than the Terra Cotta Inn restaurant. The menu options here are wide, ranging from casual bites to Italian fine dining. Also on the menu you’ll find fine wines, local Caledon beers and colourful cocktails! Set on a scenic plot with gardens along the Credit River, and built with well-preserved original stone walls and wooden beams, the environment of the Terra Cotta Inn is a real show-stopper. Summer on the patio will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale, while indoors provides a cozy, romantic setting in the winter. One visit to Terra Cotta and we promise you’ll be itching to come back soon.

Caledon Hills Brewing

Caledon Hills Brewing is family-owned brewery in the heart of downtown Palgrave. This renovated old church turned German-themed beer hall has mastered more than just a cold beer. The ever changing “chalkboard menu” is iconic to Caledon locals. Caledon Hills rotates their menu weekly, leaving some things the same, while also introducing new items. Often on the menu you’ll find: the *best* smash burgers, wood-fire pizzas, sweet potato tacos and brussels sprouts decorated with whatever toppings and sauces they’re vibing with for the week. With communal picnic table seating, both on the patio or inside (and next to the immaculate stained glass windows)…it’s a total mood. Live music, and laid-back staff just add to the experience!

Ume Sushi

In the heritage district of Bolton, you’ll find Ume Sushi on the main corner of King and Queen St. Every town needs a staple sushi restaurant and we love Ume for more than just the incredible food. After you stuff your belly full with authentic rolls, you can take a stroll through downtown and walk through shops and along the Humber River. Perhaps during the summer months you’ll even grab an ice cream next door at Happy Days. With tasty food and a convenient location, Ume Sushi was an obvious pick for this list!

Spirit Tree Estate Cidery

In the village of Cheltenham, you’ll find none other than the iconic Spirit Tree Estate Cidery. Spirit Tree prides themselves on being a local and sustainable cidery, bakery, bistro and farm shop. Whether you’re looking to enjoy cold house-made cider on a sunny day, stop for fresh farm goods on your way back home, or sit down for a full hot meal after a strenuous activity, Spirit Tree can provide. With live music, as well as apple picking in the fall, there’s no shortage of fun (or food) at Spirit Tree. Between nature, community and cuisine, it’s a Caledon must-stop.

The Belfountain Cafe

The Belfountain Cafe is one of Caledon’s gems, located within a designated heritage building. What was once a general store, is now a community hub for conversation, relaxing and of course yummy treats. Inside these walls, you’ll find much more than just the unique history. Stop in for a quick iced coffee, or be amazed by the flaky stuffed croissants, often themed for the season! If you’re hoping for something a little heavier than sweets to satisfy your hunger, the cafe has options for more, including avocado toasts, pizza and sandwiches. The Belfountain Cafe loves to go all out with seasonal decor. Whether it’s at Christmas time, or feeling like you’ve stepped into Harry Potter’s Hogwarts during the fall, grabbing a bite to eat here is always a full experience.

Disclaimer from a Caledon local: Spirit Tree and The Belfountain Cafe close seasonally during winter. Please make sure to check business hours before visiting. All other listed restaurants are open year-round.
