Your Caledon Explorer Personality: Nature Nomad

Always chasing the next breathtaking view, this visitor lives for forest hikes, riverside moments, and the thrill of spotting wildlife on the trails. Below is your start to four of Caledon's natural gems. For our full list, visit our other outdoor adventures here.

Ken Whillans Conservation Area

Step into pure serenity at Ken Whillans Conservation Area. This area is truly a nature lover’s oasis. Follow the Harvest Trail to complete a full loop of 2 large warmwater ponds. With the calm water on one side of you and forest to the other, you’ll have panoramic scenic views accompanied by a wide variety of birds. Keep your eye out and you may spot the yellow warblers, baltimore orioles, blue jays and many more. If you don’t see them, you will definitely hear them! With several docks and benches along the trail, take a seat to watch the paddlers and people fishing drift by.

Upper Credit Conservation Area

Get ready to explore one of Caledon’s hidden gems at Upper Credit Conservation Area. Spanning over 400 acres, this peaceful spot offers a mix of meadows, forest, and scenic views of the Credit River. With five trails to choose from, it’s the perfect place for a quiet nature walk or a weekend hike. Keep your eyes peeled near the water’s edge—you might spot a great blue heron standing still as a statue. Home to over 700 plant and animal species, this area is buzzing with life if you take a moment to look (and listen) closely.

Palgrave Forest and Wildlife Area

When visiting Palgrave, it’s only right to stop at the Palgrave Forest and Wildlife Area. And yes, the name of this park might give you a big hint as to what you’ll see. This 306-hectare greenspace is full of forest, meadows and wetlands that will make you feel like you stepped into an ethereal fairy world. If you’re lucky, you might spot a fox or deer but you’ll definitely see a variety of birds flying through the trees. Also keep an eye out for those traveling on hooves as this is a common place for trail rides!

Cheltenham Badlands

If you have yet to view the iconic Cheltenham Badlands, what are you waiting for? Badlands are a type of dry terrain made of sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils that have been extensively eroded. Not to mention they are a beautiful terra cotta colour. We have these right here in Caledon! Created 450 million years ago, this land is unique and rich in history. Along the boardwalk you’ll find signage where you can learn and explore more about how they were formed. Don’t forget to book your advance parking reservation here to ensure you snag a spot!
