The weekend has arrived…phew! Your first order of business is checking in to your home away from home: The Millcroft Inn and Spa in the village of Alton. This 5 star retreat dates all the way back to the 1800s! You’ll be charmed by learning about the incredible history, as well as enjoying the scenic grounds, waterfall, on-site restaurant, spa and incredible service. After you check in and get settled, indulge in your first meal at the Headwaters Restaurant, followed by a stroll around the captivating grounds. Make sure to snap a few pics for the gram, before getting cozy in your room.

Saturday Morning: Brunch and Arts

Alton Mill Arts Centre

Good morning honourary Caledonians! To start your jam-packed Saturday, you’re going to head to the Alton Mill Arts Centre, conveniently located a 2 minute drive from where you’re staying. This historic stone mill is now a hub of creativity, and it’s kind of like a “choose your own adventure.” Whether you want to browse the boutique shops and art, book a pottery class, or check out the blacksmith studio-visiting the Alton Mill is a MUST when visiting Caledon. There’s truly something for everyone. Just another quick drive down the road, your next stop is grabbing brunch at Gather Cafe. This friendly cafe focuses on fresh coffee, comfort food, wood-fired pizza and seasonally themed drinks. Grab a bite and enjoy the patio before venturing out of Alton for the rest of the day.

Saturday Afternoon: Unique Landforms, Small Town Shops and Scenic Dining

Cheltenham Badlands

After brunch, it’s time to experience the small village of Cheltenham. First on the list is the Cheltenham Badlands. This unique landform is a type of dry terrain made of sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils that have been extensively eroded. They’re millions of years old, rich in a terra cotta colour, and you’ll pretty much feel like you’re visiting planet Mars. While you’re in the area, make sure to pop into the Cheltenham General Store for a snack or to browse home goods, before leaving for the village of Inglewood. Inglewood is full of charm and history, with many small businesses along Mclaughlin Road that used to be 19th century hotels, banks and shops. You’ll definitely want to stop at Coywolf Coffee, Lost Bear Market, and Caledon Hills Cycling

Following your afternoon stroll, it’s time to head to the Terra Cotta Inn for dinner-in none other than the village of Terra Cotta. The menu here is wide, ranging from fine Italian dining all the way to casual burgers. Set on a scenic plot with gardens along the Credit River, and built with well-preserved original stone walls and wooden beams, dining at the Terra Cotta Inn is sure to be a highlight of your weekend.

Sunday: Spa Day, Beers and Hiking

GoodLot Farmstead Brewing

Sunday may have arrived quickly, but don’t panic-we’re going to make your last day in Caledon one to remember. To start the day right, relax in the hot springs pools, which are complimentary to guests staying at the Millcroft Inn and Spa. The benefits of hydrotherapy will have you feeling awake, refreshed and ready to take on the day! And I mean…what else are Sunday mornings for if not a little self care? It’s the right way to soak up a slow morning before checking out and continuing on with the rest of your Caledon adventure.

Following your recharge session at the pools, it’s time to hit up the iconic GoodLot Farmstead Brewery. This solar-powered hop farm will offer you refreshing flights, live music, scenic views, a laid-back atmosphere and food pop-ups! Check their summer schedule here to see when you can bite into oysters, tacos or more. Don’t forget to say hi to the chickens for us! You’ll probably see them roaming around the beer garden, hanging out with all the guests.

If you can find the energy in you for one more stop before heading home, we have the perfect afternoon hike that will leave you feeling like you truly experienced Caledon’s hills and natural beauty. Forks of the Credit Provincial Park is known for it’s gentle slopes, meadows, forests, escarpment views and of course the Credit River flowing through. Spanning 700 acres, there’s multiple trails to choose from. You can trek a quick loop around Kettle Lake, or perhaps hike the entire Meadow Trail down to the waterfall. The good news is-no matter how you decide to spend your time here, we’ve made sure your last excursion for your weekend in Caledon is going to be a memorable one.

From the historic inn to scenery, beer, arts and everything in between, we hope your weekend in Caledon has been nothing short of magical. But here’s the thing-you’ve only scratched the surface. This charming town has so much more to offer, from golf to horseback riding, cider, antique shopping, fall farms, winter sports and more. You’ll definitely want to plan a second trip. Whether you’re craving more outdoor adventure or want to soak up the small-town vibes all over again, Caledon will be ready when you are. Until next time!

Pro Tip: Before traveling, make sure to check for business hours, parking information, and make reservations where needed.
